¤Functional Vision Worksheet¤
Disease: Glaucoma
Condition: Increased pressure in the eye (resulting from the malformation or
malfunction of the eye’s drainage structures) leads to damage of the
retina and optic nerve
Etiology (cause):
· Changes in the lens or uveal tract
· Trauma
· Reaction to certain medications
· Surgical procedures
· Heredity
Portion(s) of anatomy affected:
· Optic Nerve
· Retina
Category of Vision Loss:
· Peripheral field loss
· Central field loss (if damage continues)
Resulting effect on vision:
1. Poor night vision
2. Photophobia (Light sensitivity)
3. Difficulty reading or seeing large objects at close range
4. Decreased sensitivity to contrast
5. Pain or headaches
6. Eye redness
7. Blurred vision as a result of the cornea being stretched (leads to clouding and
scarring)
Examples of potential situations where decreased visual function may occur
1. As a result of pain and increased eye pressure a student may have a difficult
time focusing on a reading assignment
2. It may be difficult for an individual to drive at night because of poor night
vision
3. It may be difficult for an individual to travel in unfamiliar places.
